UP FROM THE GRAVE

Lyrics

Verse 1:
There’s no story we’d rather be telling
But that God came Himself for His own
He declared “It is finished!” on Calvary
Bore the wrath we deserved all alone
There’s no story so timely and lasting
But that Christ condescended to save
The will of the Father accomplished
Our path to redemption He paved

Prechorus:
Buried, dead within the rock
In the calm before the wake
His heel has crushed the serpent’s head
His victory was gained

Chorus:
When he rose up from the grave
Defeating Satan, sin, and death as our forever “Amen”
Now we rise just the same
Our redemption is claimed, and the song of every saint
Is that He rose up from the grave

Verse 2:
There’s no story compared to the gospel
There’s no truth that we should hold so dear
As Christ glorified by redeeming
The distant and drawing us near

Hallelujah the grave is now empty
The stone rolled away from the tomb
We were beggars and thieves, now we’re pardoned
We’ve been ransomed from sorrow and doom

Prechorus:
Buried, dead within the rock
In the calm before the wake
His heel has crushed the serpent’s head
His victory was gained

Chorus:
When he rose up from the grave
Defeating Satan, sin, and death as our forever “Amen”
Now we rise just the same
Our redemption is claimed, and the song of every saint
Is that He rose up from the grave

Verse 3:
So rejoice in this story so timeless
In the hope that is found in His word
For the grace of His glory now drives us
The most glorious truth ever heard

Devotional

The Gospel story is one that should regularly leave us awestruck.
Christ came.
Christ died.
Christ rose again.
Today, because that grave is still empty, there are implications in His rising again that give access to true joy even in the most mundane of days. I find it extremely possible however, that some of us need to be reminded of why Christ’s rising should give rest to a tired soul and motivation to a mind without mission.
-Salvation has been provided
-Salvation provides us life as well.
-Salvation is forever secure.
While Christ’s death on the cross visibly shows the punishment of sin being inflicted upon Jesus and the appeasement of the wrath of a Holy God, we must also see the necessity of the resurrection. The necessity of the resurrection and life of Jesus shows Christ’s victory over Satan, sin, and death as it relates to himself AND to the lives of those who call upon Him in faith.
So what is the testimony then of those who truly know this living hope?
As Christ followers, those who have shared in His crucifixion and His resurrection, we look forward to telling this timeless story not only as those who have the knowledge of it, but also as those who can testify that just as Jesus rose up from the grave, we TOO have been given new life in Christ.
